All businesses should have some sort of online presence. How much and what sites vary depending on what you’re selling and the market you’re trying to reach. To market your clothing brand on social media:
- Decide which platform you want to use those best fits your target market

Decide which platform you want to use

When you’re working on marketing your business, you may not have the budget to hire a team of marketers to create your campaigns and ads. If you’re just starting out, you will want to narrow your advertising budget instead of paying smaller amounts to a larger number of different campaigns. A Billboard may not work for your business, so it would be a waste of funds and those funds could be put to better use on the local radio. All businesses can benefit from utilizing social media, though. Most people are on at least one social media platform. It pays to know the basic demographic of each social media platform so you can decide which would be best for your brand.
Some popular options include: Tiktok and Instagram, which are heavy on photography and video. These sites are great for clothing brands because they let the viewer see the item, but you also need to make sure your photos and videos look more professional and are higher quality.
Instagram is constantly changing and sometimes hashtags matter, sometimes they don’t. Instagram is still a great way to get your brand out there, but TikTok is better.
Tiktok still has the novelty of being new. People are constantly trying to go viral and if you can and get more than 1000 followers, you can start doing lives and start linking in your posts. It’s not as great before you get 1000 follows, but you will still get views. You can post a video one day and three or four weeks later, it still shows in the FYP, and you’ll still get people viewing it.
When you’re able to start doing lives, you can showcase your products. You can show how you work behind the scenes, or you can do specials. There are some businesses that will go live filling orders. There are several crystal shops that do lives daily showing what the person will be getting while they’re packaging everything up and those shops seem to be successful. If you can find a special to get more clothes sold via lives you can start doing contests or special social deals.
Facebook will give you the highest potential reach, but they also make you pay more to even be seen by your own followers and if you have a business page, they will choke the organic views so you will have to pay. Many people do not see the pay off worth the cost, if someone simply likes your post without actually buying, it costs but you won’t see a real return on the money spent. Some people do see a large return and they get advertisements that will be huge hits. Facebook still gives you the largest audience due to over one billion people having accounts and millions being daily users.
You also have the option to go live on Facebook. When you do a Facebook live, you have the capability of showing process or doing special events.

Twitter is great for sharing blog posts and has some very supportive communities. They also offer Spaces now, which is live chatting with people voice to voice and can lead to sales- because you know you’re talking to real people.
Pinterest works for long term advantage and also works well if you have a personal blog for your business. When you use Pinterest, you create pins (better pictures get better results) and people repin things they like. This works great for blog posts and articles you have written (if you’re a writer) related to your business. It drives traffic and can also drive traffic to your shop, if you link and pick the best photos. Try not to make pins salesy and there are many different types of articles you can write that can not only show you know clothing but that you have a quality brand.
Do you need a blog? Not all businesses have blogs, but blogs alongside businesses help. They can be in the form of copywriting or writing educational posts helping people decide what types of outfits are best suited for their lifestyle. Sites like WordPress make setting up a blog or other website easy and user friendly but there are services you can purchase to help you set up professional looking sites. You also have the option of writing the posts yourself or paying writers to fill your blog.
If you decide to go with WordPress, you have several options to choose. You will want to use your own domain so you will want a paid plan. You have the option of personal, premium, business or ecommerce. You may want to experiment with a personal or premium before going all the way with a business or ecom. Premium gives you the option to monetize your blog and helps you skip the steps with AdSense (advertising through Google on your site). You will be able to place ads immediately with a paid plan and that can help you bring an extra smaller stream in.
You will also need to make sure you’re up to date on SEO, that way your posts will show with authority (another stat to pay attention to if you have a blog- your DA, or Domain Authority) those stats will help you land in higher positions on Google search.
Youtube is another social site that works for some. You will likely need someone to professionally edit your videos and maybe even someone to do the videos for you. There are many influencers who you can pay to add your products to their channel and they already have a large following.
How To Legally Sell Your Clothes Online
Create your business accounts

Now that you know what socials you want to use, you need to create accounts and navigate to the business side of those profiles. Facebook requires profiles show your actual name, that’s not saying you have to, but if you don’t want to risk being banned (and losing the option to use Facebook to advertise) you may want to create a personal account. From the personal account, go to pages and you will have the option to create a page. You will be prompted to answer several questions and it will give you an option to create a business page.
If you want to introduce sales and specials/seasonal inventory and all that early to people and allow for a more personal experience, groups can be better for a business than a page. Pages are being throttled and are starting to have to be boosted just to reach people who are fans of the page, but groups take priority in notifications so it’s always good to have a sale or VIP group to advertise new seasonal items that are coming out in your store or sales. You also will have an option to either post and link as your sales page or personal page and if you keep your personal profile linked, it adds the personal touch and helps you show who you are and that you are, in fact, human.
All the other socials start you out as a personal profile but allow you to switch over to a business account. When you set up a business account, normally in settings, you will have the ability to view stats, pay attention to how many views each post gets and you can use those stats to figure out how many clicks are resulting in follows/site views and even converting to sales (if the website you use to sell online lets you see what social sites are driving traffic) and if you sell in person, you can always ask them if they have seen any of your social profiles.
Sites like Instagram and Facebook also give you many different marketing tools you can use once you set up a business account and Facebook by far gives you the most say in how you market as well as who you want to reach.
How To Get Investors For Your Clothing Fashion Brand
Determine your ROI (Return on Investment)

When it comes to determining your ROI, you want to look at different factors. You want to know what your plan is- do you want visits to your website or more people to come into your store? Physical visits will be harder to calculate, unless you ask each customer how they found you and keep track of what social sites they used. Visits to a website can be easier- if you’re using a site that tracks where your customers and views came from. That’s why WordPress is such a good builder, it tells you what websites were used to find your site.
In the current day, using social media is almost a default in most peoples’ lives. They use it to find items, find reviews, leave reviews, and even use it to interact with their favorite brands. There are also tons of options to use influencer advertising, which is preferable to many people over using celebrities or models- because they are real people and real bloggers. Using a mix of social media business pages and paying the right influencers the right price can give you a strong brand presence and help drive traffic to your clothing company or website.

Do I have to be all salesy on social media and is it only for marketing?
Generating brand awareness as well as helping PR control and customer service are all good reasons to get your brand on social media. You can answer questions, complaints and communicate with your fans and potential fans. Remember to use it wisely and try to mix business with personal, they don’t need to know about you, but they need to know enough to know you’re a real person. If you mix TicTok trends as well as behind the scenes with videos modeling your clothing you will show TicTok viewers that you’re a human and more than just a business, for example. Doing a blog post on clothing trends throughout the years and showcasing your own clothing in current trend is a good way to look less salesy- but still showcase your stuff. It’s a fine balance, but it can really help a brand.
